Demonstrative words

Referring to people

When referring to people you and your addressee can see, use a demonstrative adjective directly followed by a common noun like ひと(hito) - person or がくせい(gakusei) - student.

あの ひと は がくせい です。 (Ano hito wa gakusei desu.)

That person is a student.

この がくせい は にほんじん です。 (Kono gakusei wa Nihonjin desu.)

This student is Japanese.
